A digital SLR camera looks like any normal big digital camera but it’s different in the manner in which it is used. One differentiating feature that stands out is that of clarity without distortion i.e. the user is able to see the image he or she is about to take without being altered by anything within the camera.

You see, when you use a normal digital camera the image you see through the lens is not the original one as it becomes digitally generated so it can be projected on the viewfinder that is to say electronic components work together with the lens, which captures the image and through the wires sends it to the viewfinder while in DSLRs there are no electronic components involved but simply lenses and prisms that project the image to the viewfinder.

Here is how it works, First the light enters the lens of the camera. The mirror picks up the light and sends it through the condenser lens to the 5-sided prism (pentaprism) and then to the user’s eye. When the photographer takes the picturethe mirror swings upwards to allow the light coming through the lens to be sent straight to the image sensor.

To go a bit deeper with this let me start by saying that the image is not exactly 100% when you look through the eyepiece. This means you need to check the specs of the camera i.e. how much coverage it has and its brightness. In most cases the coverage of the image is 95% but your naked eye can never really see the difference no matter how hard you look.
